When I first started photography I could just about afford an M6 with a couple of lenses. This feels nearly impossible now, for a young photographer to do the same with the M9. I’m having a bit of a problem with this… The way camera manufactures are leaving behind the very people that gave them their reputation. Leica and others don’t seem the least bit interested in giving an “in point” to those photographers that could put these tools to good use, but can’t afford the several thousands of pounds needed. Where are the new Leica photographers ? Sitting in Legal firms or out shooting pictures in the world. The very people that gave Leica that edge, that feel, are just being ignored/priced out of contention. A sad day. Great photography is being made, but less and less on the very camera that started the whole thing off. I think that Leica should offer a “photographers discount” on there cameras so they can start being used again for real !

I agree with your sentiments. I started out,at a late age, exploring photography in 1999 with a Digilux 2, still have it, love it, will not part with it. Then an M8 and now an M9 and a few lenses, my partner bought my old M8
I love rangefinder photography and would spend the rest of my life comfortably traveling with my 50mm f1.4, one camera, one lens. For a photographer beginning the journey it is challenging, the cost, prohibitive! However leica is an aspiration and I feel that is part of the mystique, I could be wrong. ps, love your collection of Ralph Lauren’s cars. thanx, Richard.

They is a mystic to Leica I agree with you … As they are still built by hand mostly, in Germany and pay their employee a decent wage then that is reflected in the cost … I’m using the S2 for most of my bigger shoots these days and love it … best wishes Justin
